Americans......

.............I'm sorry for saying this, but the rumour of you sometimes being very ignorant to common knowledge, was all but confirmed today, and it's not the first time. I had this hilarious phone call at work today, and I can't help but make fun of Americans a bit. The conversation went something like this:

Her: "Hello m'am (it was more like 'maaaaaaaaeeeeeeeeeem') is Mr Geir in, please?"

Me: "No, I'm sorry, he's busy atm, would you like to leave a message?"

Her: "Oh. No thank you. Actually, I wanted to ask you something."

Me: "Hm?"

Her: "Yes, I wanted to ask you, what language do you speak?"

Me: "Ehhhrm... who, me?"

Her: "Yes, or I mean, the people in your country in general. Do you speak Dutch, or German?"

Me(slightly confused): "well.... we...speak Norwegian?"

Her(delighted): "Aaaah, I see, so you have your own language?"

Me: "well eh, yes."

Her: "Tell me, how do you say 'thank you' in your language?"

Me: "Eh..We say 'takk'."

Her: "Oh! I'll remember that. 'Takk', m'am! ('maaaaaeeeeem')

Me: "No problem. Bye!"

Her: "Alright, TAKK m'am, byeeeee!"

I am DEAD serious! Afterwards I had to tell the others of course, and we had a good laugh in the office. I'm sorry, not a negative word to Americans, but sometimes... I mean, shouldn't you know that in Norway we speak Norwegian when you're calling to a company in Norway asking for the CEO by his FIRST name?!

Another woman I met from Chicago was very surprised when she heard that my city Norway had over four million inhabitants, when she knew that Sweden was such a small country.

Learn some Geography, for crying out loud!
