I'm here to announce that being Christian is not about sitting quietly reading your Bible and follow strict rules.
It's about living the life you were designed to live. It's about being Jesus-like, leaving the world in a far better condition than when you entered it. It's about loving God, loving people, uniting and reuniting people with our Saviour. It's about having the outlook of a champion and the attitude of a servant. It's about LIVING, in every sense of the word.
One of the things I feel I really need to do more, is to take the initiative to go out and do good things, and not just do the things that are handed to me. I think it's one thing being a Christian who faithfully does the things he or she is entrusted to do, and being a Christian who does this AND takes the initiative to do more. There's a story about it in the Bible, Matt 25: 14-30, to work with what is already in your hands.
Last Thursday Stine and I did something very funny. Apparently there's this guy who's been reading her blog for a while, and commenting now and then. Last week he sent her an email telling a bit of who he is, asking her to be so kind as to help him out with a small favour. He's from a place called Jørpeland not far from Stavanger, you have to take a boat to get there. (Tauferjå for lokalkjente...hihi), but he's currently living in Northern Finland, of all places. His cousin lives in Jørpeland, and she's getting married in August. She lives with her fiancée and they're not Christians, although really nice, decent people. This guy wanted to give them a wedding present, and he ordered an Amplified Bible at our local Christian bookshop, asking Stine if she would be so kind to pick up this book, wrap it in, write a nice wedding card and give it to the man-and-wife-to-be. She was welcomed to bring some friends along, and he would pay her expenses for the trip.
And so we did! It was so funny. We drove out after work, the boat trip takes about 30 min, and found their house after about 10 min drive. They were surprised, to say the least, when we arrived with the present.
"Ehh.. this is a wedding present from your cousin Geir Tore, we don't know him and he doesn't know us, but having read Stine's blog he thought she seemed like a decent Christian girl and so he took the chance of asking her to give you this present and we said yes and here we are. Here you go."
It felt so good afterwards. Oh yeah! So nice to do favours for people, especially when you are being trusted like we were.
So who said Christians were boring! I don't know many people who would take the effort when they didn't know the person, however I do know a lot of Christians who take on challenges like this daily, simply because it's part of who they are. And they love it!
